From small beginnings as a little fishing village and then an important trading post for the British until gaining independence in the 1960s, the vibrant city-state of Singapore located at the gateway of Malaysia has since developed into a world-class modern city.

This vibrant metropolis is categorized by a skyline dominated by many high-rise skyscrapers, a cosmopolitan mix of cultures, languages and exotic cuisine styles, peoples from across Asia and some of the world's most well known shopping streets. The colonial past is still very much in evidence with fabulous broad tree-lined avenues and gracious colonial buildings along the River. Here too are some of the iconic Singapore hotels which captured the imagination of famous authors such as Joseph Conrad and Somerset Maugham and continue to delight modern visitors today.

Enjoy the mix of Chinese, Thai and Malay cooking in dishes such as chili crab, satay with peanut butter sauce and Laksa, a fragrant coconut-based, curry-flavored noodle soup. Follow dinner with a night out on the town in one of the many clubs along the three Quays of Riverside.
